In this year’s games, each team get to parade two reinforcement players without height ceiling. However, like the Agusanon cagers they must also be not more than 18 years during the games. Reinforcement players are also not eligible in the special awards to be handed out to players who excel in the games based on statistics.
This move by the tournament organizers was done to increase competitiveness of teams and as well as gauge the Agusanon players’ skill against more developed cagers who are playing in huge tourneys in the big cities in the country.
Some products of the annual basketball hoop fest though are already playing for premier universities in the National Capital Region as varsity players.
The opening game in the Northern Division pitted the Bayugan City Grains against the Sibagat Fibers with the Fibers posting the first win in the tourney and followed by the Southern Division tussle with the Bunawan Marshland trouncing the San Francisco Magdiwata.
The Prosperidad Rowers, Talacogon Wood Processors, San Luis Wickers, La Paz Lumberjacks and Abante Esperanza complete the Northern Division.
Other teams in the Southern Division are the Rosario Abanteros, Trento Duckers, Sta. Josefa Boars, Veruela Rubberlandia and Loreto Umayam Cascades.
Teams in each division play a single round robin format in the elimination round with the top four teams earning quarterfinal berths. The division champion vie for the Governor’s Cup and P300,000 top prize that comes with another P300,000 worth of project for their LGU. (PPIO_ADS)
