Pasko sa Kapitolyo of Agusan del Sur is a weeklong Christmas celebration with nightly spectacular events at the Gov D.O Plaza, Government Center, Patin-ay, Prosperidad.
On December 11, 2010, the celebration kicked off. Agusanon’s were gathered for a thanksgiving mass and the lighting of Christmas trees, Lanterns and Belen. These man-made crafts gave off colourful lightings that glittered all over Naliyagan ground. These head turner glamour from the highway could invite travelers to hop in and see many pakulos- the Coke Zero Hip Hop Dance Explosion, Live Band Concert Party and the much-awaited Fireworks Display.
The succeeding nights were amazing as the different government agencies joined in to fill the hub with entertainment.
December 12 was Lingaw-lingaw sa Pasko with the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Plice (PNP). The National Government Agencies, Bankers Club, Chamber of Commerce, and the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur also rocked the stage on the breezy nights of Dec. 13 and 14.
Caroling Contest highlighted the Pasko sa mga Magtutudlo on December 15 with the Department of Education – Agusan del Sur Division as host. During this time, DepEd headed by the schools Division Superintendent Cruzita Z. Taala recognized the 14 municipal mayors by giving them certificate of commendtation. Also recognized were the outstanding school heads, ALS coordinators, non-teaching personnel and national winning coaches. The raffle bonanzas and bingo game delighted the community during the Pasko Paglipay sa Barangay on December 16.
The Grand Christmas Party, Pasko sa Katilingban was held on December 17. It was well-attended by the Executive Committee of the events: Provincial Governor Adolph Edward Plaza, Congresswoman Maria Valentina Plaza, Congresswoman Evelyn Plaza-Mellana, Vice Governor Santiago Cane, Jr. and all the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Members of Agusan del Sur. They spearheaded the gift giving, raffle draw and awarding of prizes.
The amusements had been made better during the night with the crowd dancing and cheering to the live band performers and enjoying the breathtaking Grand Fireworks Display.
These joyful moments proved that Christmas, along with the prayers and wishes, is always celebrated with high spirits by the Agusanons. Though the mode of celebration, the dates and the tradition vary, the spirit glimpse of our spirit, our ways. The Pasko sa Kapitolyo of Agusan del Sur will surely live onwards……
