The "Gateway to Agusan Marsh", Bunawan is the widely used access to the country's largest Marshland, straddling through 113, 910 hectares, which is home to indigenous plants and animals and temporary refuge to migratory birds.
Bunawan is also known for freshwater fish called "Haluan" or mudfish. The dried mudfish "daing" is a certified best selling product of the municipality.
In recognition of the fish's role in the local economy, the municipality celebrates the "Haluan Festival" annually as a gesture of gratitude for this abundant gift of nature.
